IMP Powers, a Mumbai-based manufacturer of electrical measuring instruments, testing equipment, distribution and power transformers, is upbeat about its future.

The company, which has turned the corner after a recent restructuring of its debts, is banking heavily on export orders and the imminent growth of the Indian power sector, especially in the high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) segments.

Aaditya Dhoot, joint managing director, IMP Powers, said, "We have a world-class factory at Silvassa for the manufacture of transformers, and our production facilities that have been approved by overseas consultants and clients are among the best worldwide."

He added that the company is fully geared up to develop EHV transformers rating up to 150 mva within its present capacity of 3,000 mva a year.

"Our Silvassa factory is designed for the manufacture of HV and EHV power transformers up to 220 kv class 150 mva. And we have extensive test facilities utilising the highest quality test equipment," Dhoot said.

The company has total installed capacity of 3,600 mva a year.

"This year, we are hoping to consolidate our businesses and are looking at expansion in the near future, as we have just emerged from a period of financial crunch," he said.

The company suffered a total loss of Rs 14.5 crore over the last three years. However, it recently turned around and came back in the black, as it reported a net profit of Rs 1.5 crore over the past six months. It also posted total sales of Rs 29 crore. The company's export orders currently stand at Rs 18 crore.

In the past, IMP Powers executed contracts for NTPC and Power Grid Corporation of India and supplied to almost all state electricty boards in the country.

At present, it supplies transformers to major contractors such as Reliance Energy, L&T, Siemens, Nagarjuna, Kalpataru, Jyoti Structures, ABB, IVRCL and Spic.

The company has also been exporting transformers to the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Cameroon, Dubai, Kenya and Nigeria.
