With an investment of Rs 25 crore, Seabuckthorn Indage Ltd is going to set up an integrated manufacturing-cum-R&D facility in Himachal Pradesh. The unit will manufacture a range of products from beverages, food, cosmetics, medicines, cattle and poultry and fish feed, using the Himalayan berry seabuckthorn. |
Speaking to Business Standard, CEO SS Vasudeva said Seabuckthorn Indage would come up in the industrial town of Kotkhai, Shimla, where 10 acres of land had been purchased. |

Intitially, the unit production capacity will be 3 million litres a year which will be increased to 30 million litres annually, through the promotion of contract farming of seabuckthorn in the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal. |

The first product to be launched by the company in the region is the Leh-Berry brand of juices in four flavours of nectar, aple peach, mixed friut and orange. The superjuices will come in 200 ml (Rs 15) and 1 litre( Rs 65) tetra packs with a shelf life of six month. The processing and packaging of the juices is being done at the Godrej Industries Ltd food division for the time being. |

The company will also introduce certain select food items like biscuits, pickles,candies, cheese powder, chawanprash and sauces in the next fiscal year according to Vasudeva. Before the end of this year, the cosmetic range will also be introduced with products varying from anti-aging cream, to shampoos, scrubs, henna, and body lotions . |

He further added, "There is a huge potential of growth in products using seabuckthorn, considering that it is a Rs 300 million business in China. We envisage a 40 percent growth this year." The product has been launched in six states of North India so far. The company also has plans to launch its products in West India. |

"In 2006-7 the annnual turnover from the bevearge division will be Rs 120 million and by 2010 the company targets to touch Rs 1000 crore from the food and beverage division," siad the beaming CEO. |

The company has plans to launch the products under one roof through 20,000 company owned as well as franchisee model reatil outlets by 2007. |
