India will host an international conference on automobile sector aimed at promoting environment friendly vehicles here in November.
The prestigious conference, the Environmentally Friendly Vehicle (EFV) will be organised for the first time in a developing country to ensure sustainable road transport, the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises said in a statement.
"Reduction of greenhouse gases, improvement of air quality, reduction in traffic noise, protection of resources and prevention of release of harmful substances are the main objectives of the Conference," it said.
The conference is a bi-annual international conference. Earlier the conferences were held in Tokyo (Japan), Birmingham (UK) and Dresden (Germany).
The EFV conference is organised to share experiences with regard to ongoing measure for promoting or introducing environment friendly vehicles and to exchange experiences in developing problem analysis of legal and economic frameworks for introduction of such vehicles and technology.
The conference will be jointly hosted by Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises and other ministries including Petroleum and Natural Gas as well as Industry associations SIAM and ACMA.
