New Delhi based low-cost airline IndiGo has tied up with Airbus to launch Airbus Active learning and Competence focused Training (AACT), which will use virtual reality in for maintenance of the A320 series of aircraft. The AACT programme - the first such outside Europe as will as the first in India - combines a traditional classroom setting with computers, allowing maintenance engineers to train virtually using aircraft simulation software.Bruce Ashby, CEO and President of IndiGo said: "Apart from using conventional aids, for the first time in India, this training will involve new generation training tools like the M/FTD and virtual aircraft, which provide a realistic simulated environment for training purposes, covering not only the cockpit, but the whole aircraft. It allows our employees to move past traditional textbook training into a hands-on environment that gives real, practical experience in the classroom.""I am delighted that the first ever AACT programme in India has set an excellent example of cooperation between Airbus and IndiGo," Kiran Rao, executive VP, Airbus, said. "The programme will enable IndiGo to achieve the highest international standards in maintenance training and will play a key role in training for the future," Rao said.
