Even as there was some respite in the overall retail inflation for May, there was no relief for industrial workers. The Consumer Price Index-based inflation for items consumed by industrial workers rose 0.44 percentage points at 10.68% in May from 10.24% in April.

This was even higher than what it was in the corresponding month last year when it stood at 10.16%, according to data released by Ministry of Labour and Employment today.

The Ministry attributed this rise to expensive food items. Food inflation for industrial workers rose 13.24% in May against 12.39 in the previous month.
