Kerala’s travel and tourism sector has expressed concern over the omission of Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode airports from the air connectivity map in a recently released advertisement by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The ministry had released the advertisement in leading newspapers depicting civil aviation activities in the last five years in the country. The advertisement highlighted that if the Indian civil aviation had been connecting only to the main cities in the world earlier, it now connects even to the smaller cities of the world.

The Thiruvananthapuram airport is the fifth declared international airport in India handling about 130 flights in and out of the capital city of Kerala. Similarly, the Kozhikode airport, another international airport in the state, is a key airport that handles a major chunk of traffic to the Gulf countries.

The Confederation of Tourism Industry in Kerala, the Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and the South Kerala Hotel Federation have called for a satisfying explanation on this omission and demanded action against the officials who had released the advertisement.
