Infosys Technologies, India's second-largest IT company, is mulling to increase its employee strength in China from the present 2,850 to 4000 this fiscal, a top company official said today.
"Currently, we have about 2,850 employees in China. We plan to immediately take it to around 4,000. At some point in the future, not in the next five years, 20,000 employees will be an estimate of our campus there," Infosys Managing Director and CEO Kris Gopalakrishnan said on the sidelines of CII event
"Eventually, Infosys is going to invest $100 million in its Chinese operation," he said but did not mention about the time frame.
"We now see the need to create a campus and this is what we have initiated and we are in discussions with Chinese government there for getting the land. And after we get the land, we will plan to build," the Infosys chief said.
Speaking about the attrition, he said from last quarter to this quarter, attrition has come down and may become stable in the next quarter.
Gopalakrishnan said there is increased hiring across companies which resulted in movement of employees from one company to another.

To a question on promotions and pay hike in Infosys, he said one mid-term promotion has already been given in April.
"From last year onwards, we are giving promotions twice a year. There is a cycle in October for promotions also and according to our data, may be approximately 12,000 people will get promoted this month. As part of the promotion, hikes will also be there. This is part of our routine now from this year," Gopalakrishnan said.
He said globally governments follow austerity measures and the trend of recovery process will play out till the next five years.
Replying to a question on December 31, when the Srikrishna panel will submit its report on Telangana, he said it is concern of all the CII member and they we will have to ensure the safety of employees.
"We should see that there is no discontinuity of service, any disruption in the service will affect the brand and trade," he said.
