The facility, which has a green building certificate, will manufacture equipment including bus and truck air conditioners and commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning products. The delivery of products from the site will begin in May.
The company will generate direct and indirect employment to over 500 people located in and around the area once it reaches full capacity.

Products and solutions manufactured at the facility, spread over a green belt area of 15,200 sqm, will be for both domestic and global markets, according to a company release. Earlier, the company had said it would invest around $20 million in the facility.
Venkatesh Valluri, chairman and president, Ingersoll Rand India, said India was a strategic market for them globally. The new facility is a part of the company's overall growth strategy to drive technology innovation and product development.
The Chennai facility reinforces Ingersoll Rand's overall growth strategy to drive innovation, technology and product development specifically catering to markets such as industrial efficiency, transportation, food security, environmental control in buildings and energy management, the release added.
The company also has manufacturing facilities in Naroda (near Ahmedabad) and Sahibabad (near Delhi) and two engineering and technology centres at Bangalore and Chennai. With a workforce of close to 2,000, Ingersoll Rand has a presence in more than 18 locations in India.
