Interlink Petroleum Limited (IPL), has made an oil discovery in its recently drilled Bavla-8 well located in IPL's onshore Bavla block around 40 kilometers from Ahmedabad.
The company has already informed the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons(DGH) in this regard.
IPL chairman B C Bora said, "The discovery of oil in Bavla-8 is an important milestone for the company as prior to this, the Bavla block has been categorised primarily as a gas field. These latest findings mean that we will revisit the appraisal and development plans for Bavla so that we optimise the opportunity that has come our way. We are particularly pleased that the drilling of the well proved our seismic prognosis that an oil layer is present within the Kalol Formation in our block. Further testing over a prolonged period will be necessary to establish the sustainable production rate and to establish the reserves".The Bavla-8 well was drilled to a depth of 1009 meters. "After we carry out the necessary studies, we may return to the site to explore these deeper opportunities in the near future. While the size of this current discovery will soon be established, our team managed to achieve this milestone within two years", Bora said.
Further reservoir evaluation and a more extensive production testing program over the reservoir section of Bavla-8 is expected in the near future to reassess these zones and to revisit other potential hydrocarbon bearing zones of interest.
