Intertek eyes textile cos for green audit services

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to the textiles industry has taken up green initiative under its 'Think Green Initiative' (TGI) auditing services. The company intends to bring as many textile retailing value chains under this initiative as possible so as to create a sustainable environment conservation approach.

TGI audit covers two core compliance modules including environmental legal compliance and environmental management system of the companies operational in the manufacturing as well as in the textile retailing. Some of the global retail giants have already adopted the programme, while domestic textile companies are also joining the suit.

"We have introduced latest audit solutions under the TGI programme last year. The programme is aimed at reducing environmental foot print and efficient use of materials. This will bring significant cost reduction for the companies through better use of resources, reduction, reuse and recycle of material and waste reduction," said Dilip Gianchandani, regional director - consumer goods, Intertek India.

TGI audits would make companies meet environmental regulatory norms under several important aspects of water pollution, air emission, energy, noise emissions, hazardous materials, equipment and waste and sustainable production.

Intertek, one of the leading third party certification company has achieved a turnover of around Rs 195 crore (approx. £ 27 million) in India, while globally the company has a turnover of £ 3.3 billion.

Nearly 50 per cent of the company's total revenues come from lab operations. In India, the company has one lab in Mumbai, while it intends to open one more in Gujarat.
