INX launches English news channel

Within a year of starting operations, INX Media, the media company promoted by Indrani Mukerjea, today launched its third television channel, NewsX, a 24-hour English news channel.

The company's other two channels are 9XM (music channel) and 9X (Hindi general entertainment channel).

News X had recently roped in Infotainment Television Private (ITV) as its editorial advisor for a short-term engagement. ITV is promoted by television journalist Karan Thapar. INX has got Arup Ghosh as the newsroom head after the departure of Vir Sanghvi as the chief executive of INX News channel in January.

NewsX joins a handful of English news channels in the country such as CNN-IBN and NDTV 24x7, among others. NewsX is part of INX News Pvt Ltd which is majority-owned by INX Media Pvt Ltd, the promoter of 9X and 9XM.

Mukerjea is the wife of Star TV India's former chief executive, Peter Mukerjea, who now holds the position of chief strategy officer in INX Media.

He said, "March 2007 to March 2008 has been an interesting year for INX. We have achieved all that we planned and set out to achieve so far."
