The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) will call for stricter certification norms for heating, refrigerating and air-conditioning products.

ISHRAE is an associate of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). ISHRAE has more than 4000 members in India and the Middle East, while ASHRAE has over 55,000 members across the world.

"We will make a presentation to the central government to make the certification norms more stringent to ensure minimum consumption of energy. We would request for standardisation in the certification norms," Ashok Patel, president, Western India Chapter, ASHRAE, said on Friday.

ISHRAE is organising the international exhibition 'Comfex - 2005' at Karnavati Club in Ahmedabad from January 7 to 9, 2005.

"ASHRAE is advocating stricter certification norms to save energy. Our aim is to educate the masses to conserve energy and we can educate them through organising exhibitions and seminars like this," said Ronald Vallort, president, ASHRAE.

It is also holding an international seminar at Wide Angle Multiplex in Ahmedabad from January 6 to 9, 2005.

The seminar will be addressed by speakers from India, US, UK, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Egypt, Hong Kong and Japan amongst others.

Over 150 companies and 10,000 participants from across the world are expected to visit the exhibition and seminar.

"With the growth of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals, the demand for heating, refrigerating and air-conditioners will be high and this seminar will address the issues of energy conservation by using these systems," said Vallort.
