ITC, which is expanding its manufacturing facility at Haridwar, is facing labour unrest that has also affected its production.
ITC is facing an unsavoury situation after various trade unions decided to extend support to these striking workers by holding a series of demonstrations at the Haridwar industrial estate, where the factory is located.
The matter has also come before the state labour department, which is holding talks with both the striking workers and the management to find an amicable solution. “So far, there had been a deadlock.
But I have invited both the striking workers and the management for talks on Saturday to end the deadlock,” said Vipin Kumar, assistant labour commissioner, Haridwar. ITC officials remained tightlipped over the strike but admitted the production was being affected.
ITC is expanding its manufacturing facility at Haridwar at an investment of Rs 300-400 crore. For this purpose, the Uttarakhand government has allotted eight-nine acres to ITC to expand the facility.
ITC would expand its business in consumer care and food items, sources close to the development said.
