Striking workers of ITC’s Haridwar manufacturing facility called off their strike following an intervention by District Magistrate R Meenakshi Sundram.
“All the striking workers resumed work on Friday-Saturday and production has begun in the factory,” Assistant Labour Commissioner Vipin Kumar told Business Standard.
The strike had begun on Monday after the management suspended a worker on disciplinary grounds. The workers were demanding that the management unconditionally revoke the suspension of the worker and gave some additional incentives.
Under the settlement, the government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the suspension of the worker and the management has agreed to give all the workers an 8.3 per cent bonus, as well as an advance of Rs 1,000 for the festival season, Kumar said.
ITC is expanding its manufacturing facility in Haridwar with an investment of Rs 300-400 crore. The Uttarakhand government has allotted nearly around eight acres of industrial land to ITC to expand the facility.
The company would expand its business in consumer care and food items, sources close to the development said.
