The plastic piping division of Jain Irrigation Systems has bagged Rs 16.9 crore order for rehabilitation of water distribution system, including replacement of house service connections for the Karnataka urban water sector improvement project. |
The project is spread out in five demonstration zones at Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga, to benefit around 2 lakh consumers. |
The company will work with Compagnie Generale des Eaux (Veolia Water), which was selected as the operator through international bidding to implement this World Bank funded project. |
"Continuous and pressurised water supply throughout the day is important to prevent entry of polluted groundwater and sewerage into the water pipelines, which contaminate the drinking water and is a major health hazard causing diseases such as cholera and typhoid," said a Jain Irrigation official. |
On the completion of rehabilitation work, these demonstration zones will be operated by Veolia Water to demonstrate efficient operational practices including leak detection and control, computerised billing, customer services and provision of adequate drinking water to the slum areas. |
