JCB India launches 150 HP diesel engine ecoMax

Construction equipment manufacturer JCB India, today announced the launch of its own domestically built world, BSIII, 16 valve diesel engine ecoMax to power its equipment range.

The company has invested Rs 130 crore in developing this engine, which will be produced from its Ballabhgarh facility in Haryana.

Over 600 machines in different variants are already working in India across myriad applications. The engines launched by JCB in India have been designed and manufactured along the same platform as the Dieselmax engines.

The company has an installed capacity to manufacture 40,000 engines per year at Ballabhgarh.

The company will primarily use these engines for the domestic market, while later it may explore possibilities to supply to other JCB group companies.

Speaking on the occasion JCB India MD and CEO Vipin Sondhi said, "The new engines will come in a range of 76 HP to 150 HP. From April 1 all our vehicles in this range will have the BS III engine. These latest technology engines, would offer immense fuel efficiency to our customers. The domestic production of JCB engines will enable us to provide the best quality product. We will immediately start powering our backhoe the 3DX with JCB engines and many other models in our range will follow. India plays a vital role in JCB's global expansion plans and this development marks another step towards JCB's growth in India".

He added, "Last year we sold about 21,000 units of machines. In 2011 we hope to grow 15 per cent. The Indian construction equipment market is estimated to be 40,000 units per year. The company has recently started exports to Indonesia and SAARC countries but with 200 machines only."

Commenting on after sales service Sondhi further added, " At various levels the service engineers in the dealerships have received comprehensive training on the JCB engine, to ensure they're in the right stead to serve our customers. Parts for the engines have already been stocked at JCB warehouses and our dealerships. All JCB dealerships across India are now fully prepared to support the JCB engine."

JCB products in India include backhoe loaders, excavators, compaction equipment, wheeled loading shovel, lift-all and skid steer loaders growth rates.
