Construction equipment manufacturer JCB India Ltd will start manufacturing its own ‘JCB 444’ engine line for the Backhoe Loader equipment.
The facility will get operational by the end of this year. JCB has been outsourcing these engines from few Pune-based engine manufacturing companies like Kirloskar Engines and Cummins India.
JCB is celebrating manufacturing and selling 100,001st machines in India. On this occasion it has launched new JCB Backhoe Loader as JCB 3DX Super and JCB 3DX XTRA.
Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, JCB India Ltd said, “JCB’s over '750 crore investments in its Pune and Ballabgarh plants positions us very well to take advantage of the ever growing demand for construction equipment in India. We will start manufacturing our own ‘JCB engine’ for the Backhoe Loader equipment by end of this year. Currently, few Pune based companies are supplying it to JCB. Investments continued during the slowdown of 2008 - 09, and JCB is now geared up to meet demand in future.”
He added, “JCB today is the market leader in construction equipment sector in India with over 50 per cent market share. The company is also gaining strength in the Tracked Excavator, Compaction equipment and the Wheeled Loading Shovel segment across India.”
By end of July 2010, JCB sold 11,895 units against 13, 400 units in the year 2009. The company has a capacity of production of 100 machines per day at Ballabgarh plant in Haryana.

When asked about the exports, Sodhi said, “As these are big equipment, shipping is expensive. It will take some time to increase exports. But, we are exporting to Middle East, Indonesia and South Africa. Indian manufacturing is recognised all over the world.”
The company is also providing all kind of after sales services under one roof for all the products. It has 262 outlets and 51 dealers all over India.
In the last three years the company has invested '600 crore in Pune and Ballabgarh plants. The Pune plant has fabrications and heavy line manufacturing facilities, which are export-oriented. It caters to the needs of JCB factories both in India and abroad. It produces Excavators, Wheel Loading Shovels and Vibratory Compactors. It has India’s largest Parts & Technical Training Centre for construction equipment in India.
According to Sodhi, JCB has already invested in some of the largest warehouse and training centers. It will continue to introduce better technology and India centric products. Every one out of two construction equipments sold in India is a JCB.
