Leading private carrier Jet Airways today said it has entered into a code-sharing agreement with its all-economy subsidiary JetLite that will enable it to sell the latter's domestic tickets at foreign locations.

The code-sharing will be implemented in two phases and JetLite's domestic network will be available for sale under the Jet Airways' code (9W) for tickets purchased at all international points across the globe, the company said in a statement.

"With the code-share agreement between Jet Airways and JetLite, passengers will enjoy unbeatable connectivity between India and several international destinations, besides lower fares," Jet Airways CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said.

He said the code-sharing would also result in other benefits, such as higher revenues and synergies for both carriers.

The partnership will enable the twin carriers to boost online connectivity with a higher presence on global GDS screens, fully leveraging the power of global distribution networks.

This process was initiated with the migration of JetLite to Jet Airways' reservation platform in September 2008, it added.

Overseas passengers travelling to India will enjoy lower fares, through check-in and baggage check-in facilities and frequent-flyer benefits, in addition to connectivity between the carriers, both across India and several international destinations in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, it added.
