Jet Airways today announced that effective September 05, 2006, the airline will revise the fuel surcharge by Rs 100, applicable on all types of fares, in both Club Premiere and Economy Class tickets on all domestic routes in India.According to a release issued by the company, this increase in surcharge follows the continuing escalation in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. ATF prices have been increased by 4% by the oil companies effective September 01, 2006. 'The revised fuel surcharge, which has been increased from Rs 650 to Rs 750, will be applicable on all tickets purchased within and outside India, issued against Indian rupee tariffs. This surcharge of Rs 750 will be collected per flight coupon on all domestic routes within India. For tickets issued outside India, a surcharge of $ 16 per sector will be applicable on domestic travel within India.', the release added.Update at 0900 hrs:All major airlines in the country are likely to hike the fuel surcharge by Rs 100 with effect from September 5, raising the total surcharge to Rs 750.This will be the third hike in three months and the fourth this year.The fuel surcharge has soared from Rs 300 in the past 3 months to Rs 650 at present which is again being hiked to Rs 750.The hike in fuel surcharge comes in the wake of increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices by 4% by PSU oil companies on Thursday.
