Reliance Jio has is reported to partner with Google to manufacture a low-cost 4G VoLTE smartphone that will work only on the Reliance telecom network. The phone will be launched by the year-end,  reports The Hindu Business Line.

Partnering with Google gives Reliance credibility and the preloaded apps in the new phone will be easily compatible with the latest Android operating system. The phone will be created in partnership with Google in India.

While Both, Reliance Jio and Google are yet to confirm the news, it could definitely mean a complete turn-around for the Indian feature phone industry too. Reportedly, the new Jio-Google phone will be exclusive to the Jio network (a CDMA 4G phone, Jio) and will have a host of other benefits apart from the standard benefits extended to Jio subscribers. Google will be responsible for the marketing of the device while Reliance will handle the production.

According to the report in Business Line, Sanchit Gogia, CEO at Greyhound Research said, “Such a smartphone will help Rjio increase data adoption — helping it render movies and music better over its network. It will also improve the overall quality of service delivered on the Jio network.

“For Google, this would mean access to a large number of new users who would be connecting to the internet for the first time. It may also help the company assess its low-cost handset strategy,” he said.
