JP Cement is eyeing to capture 55 per cent of the Uttar Pradesh cement market in the next two years.

At present, the UP cement market is pegged at around 20 million tonnes annually and is among the top two cement consumers along with Maharashtra.

“With our targetted production of nearly 35 million tonnes cement per annum by the end of the next fiscal and novel marketing initiatives, we are well poised to capture more than half of the UP cement market,” JP Cement president (marketing) V S Srinivasaraghvan told Business Standard.

JP manufactures approximately 17 million tonnes cement annually at its 10 modern cement plants pan India. The company’s total units would be ramped up to 20, spread over 10 different states in 2010-11.

“The cement market in UP is growing very fast due to the large number of infrastructure and housing projects underway. It will also continue to widen the gap between cement production in the state and the total demand in years to come,” he informed.

Almost 70 per cent of the state’s cement requirement was being imported from other states, mainly from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
