O P Jindal Group's chairperson emeritus and minister for urban local bodies with the Haryana government Savitri Jindal today inaugurated the 810 Mw captive power plant (CPP) of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) at its steel making site at Angul.

She also dedicated the Jindal private airstrip to the service of the nation. JSPL chairman and Lok Sabha MP Naveen Jindal was present on the occasion.

"I am very happy that JSPL has adopted very environment friendly new technology for its steel plant. The coal gasification-DRI (direct reduced iron) route will be the first of its kind in the world", she said after visiting different facilities of the JSPL project.

Appreciating the CSR (corporate social responsibility) efforts taken up in its periphery area, she said, "It is the basic philosophy of JSPL that the community in the periphery area of JSPL plants should grow along with us. I am sure the efforts taken up by JSPL will definitely help in improving quality of life of people in the periphery on a sustainable basis".

The JSPL chairman said, "The coal gasifiers of the coal gasification plant are working very well and soon we will start producing sponge iron, using synthesis gas from the CGP (co-generation plant)".

He appreciated the efforts of the JSPL team in successfully setting up world's first CGP DRI route for steel making.
