Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) will run a private university in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.
JSPL, state's biggest private investor, has a 3.5 Million Tonne (MT) steel plant and an upcoming 2400 Mw power project in Raigarh, about 250 km from here.
On the recommendation of the Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission, the state government has given its consent to start three new private universities in the state, officials with higher education department said. Besides OP Jindal University, to be managed by the JSPL, Chhattisgarh government has given consent for setting up MAI University and Amity University in the state. The separate letter of intent (LoI) for each university has been issued by the government, the official added.
JSPL officials here informed that it was company's founder chairman late OP Jindal's vision and mission to establish global institutions in India that were comparable to the best in the world.
