JSW crude steel output up 14% in second qtr of 2008-09

JSW Steel said on Friday its crude steel output rose 14 per cent to 1 million tonne in the second quarter of 2008-09. The output of flat products was down 4 per cent to 722,000 tonne during the period while long products fell by 12 per cent to 68,000 tonne, thye company said in a statement.

The Company achieved cumulatively 19.76 lakh tonne crude steel production in the first half of current financial year 08-09 showing a growth of 18 per cent over corresponding half year of previous year.

JSW Steel is in the process of commissioning the next phase of expansion from 3.8MTPA to 6.8MTPA at Vijayanagar works in Q3 FY 08-09. The sinter plant and two blocks of coke oven batteries forming part of this expansion project have already been commissioned and are operational.

On commissioning of this expansion project in Q3 FY 08-09, JSW Steel will be the largest steel plant in private sector in India with a total crude steel production capacity of 7.8.MTPA.
