JSW Steel's production in April this year grew by 35% to 715,000 tonnes over the same month a year earlier.
The Mumbai-based company had produced 530,000 tonnes crude steel in April 2011, it said in a statement.
JSW Steel said its flat product output grew by 34% to 525,000 tonnes and long product by 35% to 155,000 tonnes during the month over April last year.
While flat products are used for consumer durables and fast moving consumer goods sector, long products are meant for the construction sector.
"The capacity utilisation at Vijaynagar works remained at around 80% in April, 2012 due to inferior quality and inadequate quantity of iron ore in E-auction," it said.
JSW Steel's crude steel production in 2011-12 fiscal was 7.4 million tonnes, up 16% over the previous year.
