Steel manufacturer, JSW Steel today said that its crude steel production grew by 15% to 5.99 lakh tonnes in July 2011 as compared to 5.20 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period last financial year. The production would have been higher had the suspension and transportation of mining of iron ore not been there, said the company release.
In July, the Supreme Court of India had banned mining of iron ore in Bellary district of Karnatka following which the company had to cut its production by about 35% due to shortage of Iron ore. However, the company restored the production to 80% of installed capacity post the apex court’s order in August permitting NMDC to mine upto 1 million tones per month.
During the month the company commenced its Blast Furnace-4 and Sinter Plant-4 as a part of 3.2 MTPA expansion project at Vijayanagar Works. The new units are under trial run.
The shares of JSW Steel were down by 2.86% on the Bombay Stock Exchange at Rs 656.50 at 3.20 pm today.
