JSW Steel on Friday said its production in the July-September quarter grew by 8 per cent to 3.14 million tonnes, on the back of a steady rise in demand.

“JSW Steel reported growth of 8 per cent in crude steel production in the first half of financial year 2010-11, compared with that of corresponding period of last financial year,” the company said in a statement here.

Moreover, it said production of flat steel products — consumed primarily by the automobile industry — rose by 32 per cent to 2.36 million tonnes in July-September, as against the same period last year. JSW Steel’s output of long steel products — used by infrastructure and construction companies — also shot up by 44 per cent to 570,000 tonnes during the second quarter of 2010, as against the year-ago period.

“The company has started generation of power at its 300 Mw captive power plant and heating of two blocks out of four blocks of Coke Oven-4, as part of the 10 MTPA expansion project at Vijayanagar works (in Karnataka),” it added.
