Integrated pharmaceutical company Jubilant Organosys Ltd has recorded a 130.5 per cent increase in net profit for the second quarter ended September 30, 2006 at Rs 54.4 crore, as against Rs 23.6 crore for the same period in 2005-06. Net sales for the period under review increased 41.4 per cent to Rs 465.9 crore as compared to Rs 329.6 crore crore for the same period a year ago.

Shyam S Bhartia, chairman and managing director, Jubilant Organosys, said performance had improved substantially due to all round improvement in various aspects of the business, particularly custom research and manufacturing services, active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug discovery and organic intermediates.

In its outlook for the full year, the company said it expects to deliver better revenues and earnings in the second half. "The global pricing scenario for most of our product categories is expected to hold the trend and the input material prices are also expected to be stable", a release said.

India's largest dedicated polyester manufacturing company Indo-Rama Synthetics (India) Ltd (IRSL) has reported a 74.07 per cent drop in profit after taxes at Rs 8.73 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2006 as against Rs 33.67 crore for the corresponding quarter in 2005-06.

The company's turnover, however, fell only by 18.87 per cent at Rs 421.38 crore for the second quarter of the current financial year as opposed to Rs 519.39 crore for the second quarter of the previous financial year.

IRSL chairman OP Lohia blamed the volatility in crude oil prices on the results and expects the expansion programme that is currently being undertaken to boost performance in the future.
