The alliance will offer super specialty treatment with latest techniques and standards with 300-bed capacity in three-months time.

Announcing their pact with Kamineni, Wockhardt Hospitals' chairman Habil Khorakiwala said that the current initiative in cardiac care will be expanded to other specialties like orthopedics, neurology and nephrology in future.

Kamineni-Wockhardt hospitals will add new surgical techniques in cardiology such as beating heart surgery, minimum invasive surgery and a surgical method that allows the patient to remain awake at the time of surgery (conscious off-pump coronary bypass surgery).

"Right now, a heart patient who undergoes surgery spends at least three weeks in the hospital. With the new techniques, the same patient can return home in just three to four days," K Sashidhar, managing director of Kamineni , said.

Investment pattern and other financial details will be announced in July 2005, Khorakiwala said.

According to him, Wockhardt will also make available the rich medical expertise from its exclusive association with Harvard Medical International, the global arm of Harvard Medical School.

This association provides Wockhardt, and now Kamineni hospitals also, access to the latest clinical protocols, innovations and patient care practices undertaken in the 17 Harvard-affiliated hospitals in the United States.

"We will also learn from the rich experience of Kamineni doctors in cardiac treatment," he said.
