Kannada film industry to celebrate platinum jubilee

The platinum jubilee celebrations of Kannada film industry’s first ‘talkie movie’— ‘Sati Sulochana’— will be held here on a grandscale from March 1 to 3.

The celebrations will be inaugurated on March 1, showcasing the long journey of the Kannada film industry since 1934 when ‘Sati Sulochana’ hit the screen to till date, Karnataka Film Chambers of Commerce president and yesteryear heroine Jaimala told a press conference here.

On March 2, 75 books on the Kananda film industry would be released to mark the occasion and 108 dignitaries, who contributed to the growth of the industry, will be felicitated on March 3, she said.

A year-long film festival by screening selected films across the state and also in neighbouring states has been planned, noted director

T S Nagabharana said. The event is being supported by the Karnataka government.

The Kannada film industry has seen production of more than 3,000 films since 1934.
