Chief minister K Rosaiah has directed APGenco to start work on Phase-I (700Mw) of the 2,100Mw-Karimnagar gas-based power project using regasified liquefied natural gas. The project is estimated to cost Rs 2,500 crore.
At a review meeting with officials on the power supply position and APGenco projects on Saturday, the chief minister also allowed APTransco to go in for need-based additional power purchase between February and March 2010.
During the meeting, APTransco chairman and managing director S Bhattacharya said the average energy demand met during December 2009 was 193.4 million units (mu) per day, as against 170.8 mu during the same period last year, an increase of 13.2 per cent. “The average energy demand met during November 2009 is 194.4 mu, as against 173.38 mu during the same period last year with an increase of 11.9 per cent,” he said.
APGenco officials informed Rosaiah that hydel availability for 2009-10 was 5,500 mu as against 8,969 mu as estimated by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (Aperc).

According to the plan, the 500Mw-Vijayawada thermal station Unit-VII is back into service and is expected to be stabilised by the middle of January 2010.
The chief minister asked APGenco to expedite the commissioning of Vijayawada Stage-IV, Kakatiya Stage-I, Rayalaseema Stage-III and Kothagudem Stage-VI and see that all these critical projects are operational between January and November 2010.
