RPG group company KEC International has bagged four contracts worth Rs 231 crore ($52.9 million) from Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation for rural electrification.Three contracts are for construction of power distribution networks and include erecting 33KV/400KV volatage distrubtion lines for about 2,450 kms for rural electrification through out Ethiopia, the company said in a release today."Spread over hilly and forest terrain, the total length of the 33KV lines is more than 2,000 route kilometres, while low voltage lines are approximately over 450 route kilometres," the release said.The scope of the project, which is funded by African Development Bank, also includes installing 180, low voltage sub-stations. "After completion, the lines will electrify over 40,000 rural households," the release said.The fourth contract is for 230KV, single circuit transmission line from Combolcha to Semera (180 kms) and Semera to Dicheto (63 kms).Ramesh Chandak, MD of KEC, said: "These new orders signify the confidence of power utilities throughout the world in KEC's capabilities of adding value through efficient project management and execution. KEC will continue to develop new markets, focus on value-chain expansion and improve operational efficiency."
