Kolkata-based Rs 150 crore Khadim India Limited, is bullish on growing its retail business - Egaro - in Howrah, Asansol and other areas in West Bengal where organised retail is not prevalent. |
According to Joydeep Basu Roy, deputy general manager - marketing, of Khadim India Limited, "At Howrah, there is no organised retail giant except Big Bazaar. However, Big Bazaar is a value chain while Egaro caters to the lifestyle segment." |
Egaro at Howrah, however, plans to expand its store in order to give it more visibility and take on competition. |
At present, the Howrah store is only 17,000 sq ft. |
In the next six months it would be a full-fledged 26,000 sq ft store. |
"The Howrah store was inaugurated on June 1 and since then we have noticed 7,000 footfall per day. Sales, too, have been up to our expectation," Basu informed. |
Egaro's next stop would be Asansol where it would inaugurate its store within this fiscal. |
"At Asansol, again, there is no big retail giant, except for Bazaar Kolkata. So we see good business," Basu added. |
Khadims is investing Rs 50 crore in phases over the next two years to set up close to three departmental stores this financial year. |
Each store would require an investment of Rs 12 crore. |
Egaro launched its Puja collection today, which it claimed reflected the latest trends and colours. |
