City-based Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) today launched a robotic-assisted surgery facility at its hospital here.

The facility has come up in partnership with US-based Vattikuti Urology Institute (VUI), a global player in propagating the concept of minimally invasive research with a specific focus on robotic surgery, Bhaskar Rao, managing director and chief executive officer, KIMS Hospital, said.

VUI has already performed over 6,000 robotic surgeries across the globe. The facility is available across 150-200 centres in the US, where it performs 100 surgeries a day, he said. KIMS is the second hospital in the country to launch this facility after Medanta Hospital in Delhi.

Surgeries in urology (prostate, kidney and urinary bladder), gynaecology and others such as ENT, cardiac, gastro intestinal and liver resections can be performed through this. The cost ranges between $ 4,000 and $ 5,000.

It would be functional from June 26.
