The modernisation and technological upgradation of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) treasury offices is running behind schedule, said sources in the corporation.
The initiative, aimed at converting the treasury offices into digitised, swanky, citizen-friendly service centres, is part of its Rs 100 crore e-governance project, where DFID is the main financial partners. Sources said, the upgradation process in some of the boroughs, for instance borough 13 and 14, had not started as yet, and would take time.
Mayor, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, said that the e-governance initiative would cover all the 15 boroughs or tax collection centres of KMC by the end of 2009-10. "Work is on in full swing," he added. Bhattacharya was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of two service centres at Alipore and Behala.
In February this year, KMC rolled out two of modern digitally linked e-Kolkata service centres at Kasba and Manicktala.
The main aim of the centres was to reduce the inconvenience of the citizens in availing the services of the corporation.
