A high-level official delegation of the Uttarakhand government visited Startup Village here to study the functioning of the incubator and to examine the possibility of replicating it in the north Indian state.
The delegation, comprising R Rajesh Kumar, managing director of the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIDCUL) and additional secretary of industries, and SL Semwal, general manager of SIDCUL, visited the Startup Village at Kalamassery, and held discussions with its officials.
"I am extremely impressed with the role played by Startup Village in opening up the vast entrepreneurial avenues in the area of telecom and Internet for the young people of Kerala," Rajesh Kumar said.
The Andhra Pradesh government had already established an incubator on the lines of Startup Village in Visakhapatnam. Officials of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, too, had made a visit to the Village recently to learn about the nuances of building a world-class startup ecosystem.
Startup Village, which has helped incubate over 530 nascent firms in the last three years, has recently received the national award for technology business incubator, in recognition of its efforts to bring in a sea change in Kerala. The incubator plans to launch a billion-dollar campus startup in India by 2022.
Kerala expands rehabilitation for Kochi metro-affected
The Kerala government today approved a proposal of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to extend the rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package to households affected by road widening between Kunnara Park and Petta, as part of the metro's facilitation works.
Earlier to this, only households affected directly by the metro's land acquisition had been covered under the R&R package. KMRL had prepared a detailed policy in this regard.
For implementing its R&R package, KMRL had earmarked around Rs 25 crore in its budget, which had already got the state government's nod.
For widening of road between the Kunnara Park and Petta section, there is a requirement of 3.98 acre and the revenue department has so far acquired over 62 cents.
"We believe that those who lose their land or livelihood due to the metro project, be it the main project or the supplementary works, should be provided with the same benefits," said Elias George, managing director of KMRL.
