KPT to decide on price bids for new berths on Sep 15

Kandla Port Trust (KPT) board will decide on the price bids for construction of four new dry cargo berths at the cost of Rs 755 crore, on September 15.

Price bids of three bidders which had submitted the bids namely IMC, Alpha Vinimay and Mundra Export, an Adani group company, were opened on September 9, officials of KPT said.

According to KPT officials, four new dry cargo berths will be constructed on Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) and revenue sharing basis and the berths will become functional by September 2011.

When asked about the prices quotted by the bidders, a senior official of KPT said, "we opened the price bids two days back and highest bidder is Alpha Vinimay. However, the board will meet on September 15 to take a final decision on the matter and subsequently contract will be awarded."

He added presently there are 12 berths at KPT and with four new berths, capacity will go up significantly.

KPT had invited global tenders and short listed 10 firms following the clearance of the central government for building new berths.

However, nine of the 10 firms were given request for qualification (RFQ) and subsequently three companies finally submitted the price bids.
