Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a Rs 1,000 crore turnkey project by oil behemoth Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The project is for building four well platforms and inter-connecting pipelines for Mumbai High north and Bassein fields. |
Three of these platforms, with six wells each, will be of the latest 'tripod' design, to be engineered by L&T's upstream joint venture engineering company, L&T-Valdel, in association with Worley Parsons, US. |
The fourth platform having nine wells will be designed to handle corrosive 'sour' gas from ONGC's Bassein field. It will be constructed of special material like duplex stainless steel and Incoloy-cladded material for the topsides and pipeline. |
All critical structures for the project, which are being adequately expanded to meet increased demand from ONGC and overseas clients, will be delivered from L&T's modular fabrication facility at Hazira. |
This is the second major order for L&T from ONGC. In February 2004, L&T was awarded a turnkey project valued at Rs 1,006 crore from ONGC for nine new wellhead platforms. |
Then, L&T was given single-point responsibility for the complete engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of the platforms. |
