Engineering major Larsen and Toubro today said it has secured a Rs 6,500 crore order from Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd -- a Jaiprakash group company -- for a 1,980-MW power plant in Uttar Pradesh.

The order is for "supply, erection and commissioning of a boiler-turbine generator package, critical piping, electrostat precipitators and power plant automation of the power plant being set up in Uttar Pradesh," a company statement said.

The power project is located in Karchana district -- 40 km from Allahabad in UP -- and will comprise three units of 660-MW each.

"The project will be fully commissioned in 60 months, with the first unit scheduled to go into commercial production in 48 months," the statement added.

Before this, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) had bagged a similar order from Jaiprakash group in August last year for two supercritical units of 660-MW each for a power project in Madhya Pradesh.
