L&T Metro receives rails from France for Hyderabad project

Rails for the project are being procured from Tata Steel, France which have a proven record of supplying rails

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd (LTMRHL) today said it has received a consignment of rails shipped from France.

The company, developing a metro project in the city, has received rails weighing 5,000 tonnes from France. These rails will be laid down as tracks at its depot in Uppal area, LTMRHL said in a release here.

The rails were shipped to India (Mumbai) and transported by road on special trailers to Hyderabad Metro Rail's Uppal depot here, it said.

Rails for the project are being procured from Tata Steel, France which have a proven record of supplying rails to major projects in the world and also to the Indian market, it said.

V B Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director, LTMRHL, said this is another important milestone for Hyderabad Metro Rail and indicates the project is progressing in a desirable manner.

"With the arrival of rails from France, track laying work shall commence in the Uppal depot soon. This development marks the beginning of utilisation of international expertise on ground for the prestigious metro project," he said.

According to the release, as much as 22,500 metric tonnes of rails are required for Hyderabad Metro Project and they would be procured in six lots.
