L&T Q1 net up 26%

Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) has posted a 26.12 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 80.13 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2004 as against Rs 63.53 crore in the corresponding quarter.
 
The engineering major estimated a 25 per cent growth in its sales in the current fiscal. Net sales for the reporting quarter rose to Rs 2,639.37 crore (Rs 1,564.93 crore).
 
The figures for the first quarter of 2003-04 have been recast to exclude financials of the cement business which was demerged into Ultratech Cement Ltd with effect from April 1, 2003, a company release said.
 
Engineering and construction (E&C) division's revenues for the reporting quarter touched Rs 2,277.45 crore (Rs 1,310.97 crore). The total order backlog as on June 30, 2004 stood at Rs 16,581 crore. The electrical and electronics division clocked 24 per cent growth at Rs 250.84 crore (Rs 202.78 crore).
 
With the robust backlog, the company expects an overall sales growth of over 25 per cent for the current fiscal.
