L&T wins Rs 3,655 cr road project in Qatar

Project involves construction of 11 km road consisting of 10 lanes and four lane sections with additional roads and ramps

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro has won a Rs 3,655 crore road project in Qatar, its single largest road order in the international market.

"The Transportation Infrastructure Business of L&T Construction has secured a major prestigious international order worth Rs 3,655 crore from ASHGHAL (Public Works Authority), state of Qatar for design and construction of Al Wakrah Bypass Road," the company said in a filing to the BSE.

The project involves construction of 11 km road consisting of 10 lanes and four lane sections with additional roads and ramps.

The company said the "freeway will provide access to the existing and planned developments via five major interchanges comprising 20 bridges, 13 bicycle overpasses, 8 vehicular underpasses, 3 pedestrian bridges and 736 metre long and 32 metre wide vehicular tunnel work".

The project is scheduled to be completed in 32 months.

Al Wakrah Bypass is major South-North freeway connecting the existing Al Wakrah Mesaieed, it said, adding that the new freeway will be a continuation of an existing major urban North-South high-speed corridor of Doha Expressway.

L&T Senior Executive Vice President (Infrastructure & Construction) S N Subrahmanyan said: "This is the company's single largest road order in the international market and is an important turning point in our plans of growing the company's business in the Middle East Region."

L&T scrip closed at Rs 1,225.40, up 0.56%, on the BSE.
