Leyland, Brehon in tech tie-up for hythane use

Commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland, a flagship of Hinduja Group, announced that it had signed a technology tie-up with Australia's Brehon Energy Plc for the use of hythane, a blend of 20 per cent hydrogen and 80 per cent natural gas, in CNG (compressed natural gas) engines.

According to a company statement, the agreement with Brehon would enable Ashok Leyland to offer its 6-cylinder 'H' series engines to operate on hythane, which is considered ecologically superior.

At present, Ashok Leyland produces BS3 compliant diesel and CNG engines. The re-engineered engines using hythane, it reduces gaseous emissions further than CNG, will enable the company meet the more stringent and future emissions norms starting with BS4.
