Launch set for October
LG electronics India Pvt Ltd (LGEIL) will be re-entering the laptop market this October with its offering of 3D enabled laptops.
The electronics giant, which held a tech show in Ahmedabad, also introduced a host of other innovations in the LED monitor segment like the 3D cinema monitor, IPS monitor, E 60 E 81 and E 90 monitor variants here.
“3D is the future of entertainment and according to market projections the sale of desktop and laptops will almost be equal by 2013. Gaming is another growing segment that we are looking to cater to with the laptop that will be priced at Rs 35,000 onwards," said Sanjoy Bhattacharya, product group marketing head-IT at LG.
Apart from the 3D cinema monitor, LG has also come up with the world’s slimmest monitor variant of monitors that stand at a thickness of 7.2 mm. Talking about the latest innovations in the monitor technology he added, “Desktop sales have shown a positive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 5.8 million units per year. So LG will also be launching the laptop with a host of other innovations like the ‘Internet monitor’ and ‘network monitor’ by October this year. With a market share of 33.7 per cent in the total monitor segment; the company aims to achieve 42 per cent by the end of 2011. The company is also aiming for a market share of 20 per cent from its slim series that we have just launched."
As gaming contributes around 4-5 per cent of sales to overall desktop industry, the company is looking at targeting the growing segment with its 3D cinema monitors.

It plans to tie up with gaming giants in the top eight metros of India to showcase the features of gaming on the 3D cinema monitors soon.
"India drives six per cent of the global monitor sales for LG so we are also looking at expansion plans. We currently have a manufacturing unit in Greater Noida and Pune and are looking at expanding our manufacturing capabilities in the South as well. The current capacity of the unit at Pune is around one million units and we hope to ramp up the operations by 20 per cent this year,” said Jin Lee, IT Group marketing head- CE Marketing team who was also present at the tech show.
