World's largest professional networking site LinkedIn today announced opening of a technology centre in Bangalore, its first such office outside of North America.

LinkedIn, which has more than 135 million members globally and over 12 million users in India, has appointed Ganesh Krishnan to lead engineering operations in India, a company statement said. Earlier, he had stints with Yahoo! and CISO.

The centre is LinkedIn's fourth office in the country after its India headquarters in Mumbai and sales offices located in Gurgaon and Bangalore.

LinkedIn started its India operations in 2009. LinkedIn recently opened its Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Singapore.

It is also looking at hiring for infrastructure engineering and operations roles like software engineers, operations engineers and data base administrators.

"Being in the business of connecting talent with opportunity, we are confident that the depth and quality of engineering professionals in India will spur the continued development of LinkedIn solutions for members across the world," LinkedIn Senior Vice President (Products and User Experience) Deep Nishar said.

Krishnan's immediate focus will be to build a strong local team and to develop applications relevant for professionals, Nishar added.

Before moving to India, Krishnan was based at the LinkedIn headquarters in Mountain View, California.
