Ahmedabad-based retail chain Liverpool is aiming to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by opening 150 outlets simultaneously across 16 states in the country.

"These stores will be as Barcelona and will be opened at a time in the second week of May. We will be the first company in the world to achieve this feat and are looking for a place in the Guinness Book," said Anmol Aggarwala, director of Liverpool.

Liverpool ventured into the readymade garments in 2001 and made its foray into the fashion retail segment in October 2006. The company already has 125 stores on a franchisee model.

The company has earmarked an investment of Rs 200 crore, which includes setting up of a garment manufacturing unit, exclusive lifestyle stores, warehousing facility and franchise stores.

"In the next one year, we plan to set up 1,000 outlets across the country. We have a presence in 13 states and are planning to further make inroads by opening more stores," Aggarwala said. It is targeting a turnover of Rs 80 crore by December 2008.

The company is foraying into lifestyle stores and has started spadework for a 30,000 sft outlet in Ahmedabad.

These exclusive multi-brand outlets will be spread in 20,000-50,000 sft area and will also come up in other cities starting and the next stop will be at Vadodara and Surat. The other promoters of the company are Vijay Singh Rathod and Kailash Gupta.

Liverpool is setting up a manufacturing unit at Narol with a capacity to produce about 10,000 pieces per day. It will also launch Zebra- fashion brand for kids by June-July 2008.

With already two overseas outlets operational in Dubai, the company will spread its wings to Panama and Australia in near future.
