Late Priyamvada Birla's will of 1999, which sparked off one of the biggest controversies, is now threatening to break open her almirah and chests, ten months after her demise. |
Both the Lodhas and Birlas have approached Calcutta High Court that duplicate keys be made of her almirahs and chests, to enable stocktaking of her possessions. |
The Lodha camp made an oral mention of duplicate keys on May 5. Subsequently, the Birlas filed an application asking for intervention of the Court, allowing the special officers to break open the locks of almirahs and chests. |
The order is likely to be passed tomorrow. |
It may be recalled that the Court appointed special officers on the basis of an application filed by the sisters of MP Birla "" Lakshmi Devi Newar and Radha Devi Mohta. |
They had asked for an inventory of goods left by late Priyamvada Birla and MP Birla. |
The special officers were allegedly facing difficulty as both the parties did not have keys to almirahs and chests, and hence the request for the order. |
The matter will appear before Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta for hearing. |
The special officers have completed their visits to residences of Priyamvada Birla in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Allahabad. |
Meanwhile, the court will hear tomorrow the appeal filed by the Birlas, challenging the order passed by Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta discharging their caveat petitions. |
A Division Bench comprising PC Ghosh and PN Sinha will hear the case. |
Justice Sengupta, in his order dated March 11, discharged caveatable interest of KK Birla, BK Birla and Yash Birla. |
KK, BK and Yash Birla feel that if G P Birla had a caveatable interest in the will and his case was not discharged as he one of the executors of Priyamvada Birla's will, they also had a right on the same grounds. |
KK Birla was one of the executors of MP Birla's will of 1982. BK Birla was nominated as an executor recently in Priyamvada Birla's will of 1982. |
Yashovardhan Birla was nominated in MP Birla's will of 1982. However, the nominations were struck down by Justice Sengupta. |
