Lohia group set to enter electronic vehicle market

The Rs 500 crore Lohia group of companies is setting up the manufacturing plant in the industrial town of Kashipur in Uttarakhand at an investment of Rs 150 crore.

The new factory is expected to start production in July and to roll out power-driven scooters and three-wheelers. The company, which is known for its handicraft export items, has promised to provide employment to nearly 300 persons in the new facility.

Talking to Business Standard, Lohia Auto Industries President Vinay Gupta said that the battery-operated two- wheeler would roll out in July end and would be launched in New Delhi. The three- wheeler will be launched in September.

He said the two-wheeler would come in three models; for women and teenagers, for men and for senior citizens. Gupta said that they would explore opportunities in export markets using their links with global retail chains like Walmart, Sears and target Store.
