Luminous banks on launches, e-bikes

The Rs 425 crore Delhi-based Luminous Power Technologies Private Limited (LPTPL) was aiming to achieve turnover of Rs 1000 crore by 2009-10 on the back of product launches and aggressive marketing.

“The company had been growing at 66 percent rate over last year and was expected to reach Rs 700 crore by this year end, so this would not be so difficult,” claimed Sunil Bhalla, director, LPTPL.

On the product side the focus would be more on UPS, lead acid batteries and inverters among conventional products as well as advanced home appliances section and e-bikes.

To strengthen the marketing and distribution side, LPTPL tied up with Redington India for distribution of UPS products across India. The thrust this year would be on achieving leadership in the packaged electrical power electronics product domestic market besides expanding exports, said Bhalla. LPTPL exported to more than 32 countries especially in West Asia and Africa, but bulk of business came from the Indian subcontinent. The company had three production facilities in Himachal Pradesh (HP) with total production capacity of around 1.5 million UPS and 800,000 deep cycle lead acid batteries per annum. This apart, its China production facility could produce 2 million UPS units.

"Capacity utilisation would be not a problem since we have established a brand image both domestically and internationally", claimed Bhalla.

The company would focus on developing power solutions based on solar, wind and hybrid technology and hoped to launch products in six months. Besides the company's latest Lectrix E-bikes would be launched in October and be priced from Rs 22000. The bikes would run on batteries exclusively and be completely assembled and build at LPTPL production facilities indigenously.

In West Bengal and the East, Bhalla said the focus would be on batteries and inverters as its inverters were already selling very well. The eastern region was contributing close to 10 per cent of total revenue, and the increased focus on inverters and batteries would boost sales, he claimed.
