Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), India's largest maker of utility vehicles and tractors, opened its extended automobile manufacturing facility at Zaheerabad in Telangana on Wednesday.
The facility, which was expanded with an investment of Rs 250 crore, comes with an enhanced production capacity of 92,000 vehicles a year, while the overall plant capacity will be 140,000 units per year.
The plant will manufacture sub-one tonne commercial vehicles, including four-wheel load and passenger vehicles, in addition to the UVs, LCVs and three wheelers.
The extended facility will also roll out M&M's small commercial vehicle code named P601.
"With our investment of Rs 1,000 crore till date, we have significantly invested in Telangana," Pawan Goenka, executive director of M&M, told mediapersons.
Pravin Shah, president and chief executive officer (automotive), M&M said, "Six of our suppliers are currently setting up plants in the nearby supplier park, with investments of over Rs 100 crore. This will further maximise industrial activities and operational effectiveness, leading to just-in-time delivery for optimising cost."
